Few FAQs related to this course: 1) Could you please confirm what build version of Oracle Application Vision you supply? R12 (12.1.1) 2) How does the virtual server work - is it a matter of plugging in the usb drive and running off the machine (desktop/laptop)? You install VMware server on your machine (one time job), then simply access vmware image from vmware software . WE will provide you step by step doc on how to do this. 3) What spec PC/Laptop is required to run the VMs with workable response? Any operating system which can support vmware server 2.0 windows xp, vista and linux are in support list. Minimum memory requirement is 3 gb. However for better performance we recommend 4 GB or above 4) I understand that I can make backup copies. But, what if my laptop crashes and reinstall my system, what happens now to the VM? Would it run by just plugging it to my laptop? You need to reinstall vmwware on your machine and plug external disk again.. 5) Would it run fast in Windows XP, 2.4 Ghz and 2GBRAM? XP is fine but we recommend minimum 3 GB RAM 6) Do i need to have linux on my laptop? No, You need to install vmware (freely available and we will provide you steps to install vmware) and then simply plug-in external device. 7)If i copy the files on to my machine without having the linux how can i deploy the forms,reports etc? You need to connect to vmware machine (preinstalled linux and Oracle Apps) using tool like sftp or secure copy. We will provide you step by step instruction on how to do that. 8) What are the system (desktop + laptop) requirements?. Could you please send me info how to setup the system to use this external drive to get R12 up and running? Minimum 3 GB RAM and atleast 5 GB free space to install VMware Server. For steps on how to setup system to use external drive to get R12 up and running is part of documentation (only for registered users after making payments) 9)Please list the software included in the r12 Virtual machine? Currently We are shipping 12.1.1 software . Development tool you can put on your laptop/desktop and use as normal . If you need any tool/additional software mail us requirement 10) Would I have full access to the Database and R12 to perform Technical and function tasks? Yes 11) Is the performance running the R12 Virtual Machine the same as installing the software on the laptop?
Not excatly same accessing R12 virtual is little slow compared to one without vmware but if you have good memory (3+ GB) you won't notice much difference
12) Can I install & run other oracle software i.e. Discoverer, SQL+ etc..? Would I be able to connect to the Database and produce reports etc..? Yes, install these software on your laptop/desktop and connect to apps R 12.1.1 . Yes you would be able to connect to database to produce reports 13) Can I run it from windows Vista? Yes 14) Since I'm developer, not Apps DBA, so I hope the R12 Virtual machine will have all components that I need to practice my development like WF Engine, Email Server, XML Publisher. No currently Virtual Machine contains only R12 for additional components you need to install on your local (desktop/laptop) machine. We are working on additional software on vmware . 15)How much does it cost? The cost of R12 Virtual Machine is USD 300/- (Additional Shipping charges apply) 16)I am in USA , how much will be the total cost for me?. Vmware machine price including shipping charges to US customers is 350 USD (in all states) 17) How many days will it take to ship to US ? We will ship product within 10 Days from date of payment (day on which payment is cleared). Please note that the product will be shipped from 18th July onwards If any payment is made from 1st July till 15th July 2011. 18) I'm interested to buy virtual machine, can I use this hard disk with multiple systems? You can use this hard disk with multiple system provided you have VMware setup done on that machine with all the pre-reqs as mentioned in installation doc. 19) Do i need license to access the oracle application? As per license agreement here http://www.oracle.com/corporate/pricing/application_licensing_table.pdf If there are no modifications to Oracle E-Business Suite (Database or Application Server) then license is not required. We however request you to check with Oracle Sales representative before using this external harddisk for commercial purpose. 20)How is the performance if used from external hard disk attahed using USB to my laptop ? Performance of the instance depends upon the resources of your laptop. Minimum memory requirement is 3 GB. 21)In case of any problems in the external harddisk( eg crash ) , any replacement ? We always advice our customers to take the back up of HDD once received so you can restore from this backup in case of data corruption. If your hard disk is corrupt (you can't restore data because of hardware failure) then We will send you replacement but you need to bear shipping cost (We have not seen even single case with Disk failure).
